Qantas has announced a new three-times-weekly direct service from Sydney to Chengdu, launching May 1, 2026. The route will operate on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with a flight time of approximately 11 hours. Chengdu, home to the famous Giant Panda Research Base and gateway to Sichuan's stunning landscapes, has seen growing demand from Australian tourists. Qantas CEO noted that the route responds to strong booking data showing Chengdu as one of the fastest-growing Chinese destinations for Australian leisure travellers. Introductory return fares start from AUD 99 in economy and AUD ,200 in business class. The new route brings Qantas's total China services to 28 flights per week across four destinations.
