Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge Reopens After Scenic Upgrades
tourism • 26 March 2026
Zhangjiajie's famous glass-bottomed bridge has reopened following a three-month renovation that includes expanded viewing platforms, improved safety railings, and a new glass-floor skywalk extension offering panoramic views of the sandstone pillar formations that inspired the movie Avatar. The bridge, spanning 430 metres across a canyon at a height of 300 metres, now features timed entry slots to manage crowds more effectively. International visitors can book slots online up to 30 days in advance, with morning sessions (8:00–10:00 AM) recommended for the clearest views. Australian tour operators are incorporating the upgraded attraction into their Hunan province itineraries, often combined with the Tianmen Mountain glass walkway and the Wulingyuan Scenic Area. The nearest airport, Zhangjiajie Hehua, receives direct flights from Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.
