China’s latest tourist-facing travel news is dominated by **visa facilitation**, **strong inbound tourism growth**, and **new rail and air connectivity**. According to Xinhua, China is seeing a summer inbound tourism boom thanks to visa-free entry policies, while China Daily reports new rules to strengthen overseas travel and exit-entry management that take effect on **15 September**.[14][2] For Australian travellers, the most practical update is that China continues to expand **visa-free transit** and **digital border services**. Xinhua-linked reporting says authorities are looking to widen the **240-hour visa-free transit scheme**, which currently covers **55 countries at 65 ports**, and to further adjust unilateral visa-free entry, which already covers **50 nationalities**.[4][5] China Travel News also reports that inbound travel bookings have surged, with Trip.com Group saying inbound bookings rose by about **90% year-on-year** in Q1 2026.[7] Transport is also improving for visitors heading beyond the main gateways. ECNS reports that China’s summer railway travel rush is expected to handle **1.01 billion passenger trips** between **1 July and 31 August**, and it also covered the launch of the first **China–Central Asia cultural tourism train** from Xi’an to Almaty with **260 passengers** on a **16-day** Silk Road journey.[8] For tourists, that points to easier access to inland and cross-border sightseeing routes, not just Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.[19]
