China Policy Update — 29 September 2026
policy • 29 September 2026
China’s hotel pipeline is continuing to expand in *secondary cities* and tourism districts, with new openings adding more choice for travellers. According to China Daily, Accor is also deepening its China push through local partnerships, while Hyatt has just opened the **201-room Hyatt Regency Jiaxing Nanhu** in Jiaxing’s South Lake district on 28 September, extending its footprint in the Yangtze River Delta.[4][1] For travellers, the practical takeaway is that China’s tourism infrastructure is becoming more convenient and varied, especially in destinations beyond the biggest gateway cities. China.org.cn says authorities will keep improving inbound tourism services during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, including **visas, payments, tax refunds, guided tours, accommodation and transport**, which should support smoother stays for international visitors.[8] Another useful trend is the broader scale of hotel development. CBRE says mainland China remains the **largest source of future hotel supply in Asia Pacific**, accounting for nearly half of projected new additions, even as limited supply and higher construction costs shape the market.[3][11] That means more openings are likely to appear in growing leisure and business destinations, particularly where domestic tourism demand is strongest.Sources
