China’s cultural festival calendar is especially strong in **Shanghai, Beijing, Hunan and Yunnan** this October, with a mix of heritage performances, lantern walks, music festivals and hands-on folk-culture activities for travellers. For Australian visitors, these events are a practical way to combine city sightseeing with live cultural experiences, often concentrated around National Day and the Mid-Autumn holiday period.[10][12][14] According to **China Daily**, Shanghai’s Yuyuan Tourist Mart is hosting **moon walk parades, Chinese opera and folk music** as part of National Day programming, while the city’s wider arts season will continue with the **25th China Shanghai International Arts Festival** from **17 October to 15 November**, featuring nearly **400 performances, exhibitions and events**.[12][10] China Daily also reports that travellers are drawn to destinations with a stronger traditional atmosphere, including **Nanjing, Hangzhou and Huangshan**, where night tours and moon-viewing experiences remain popular.[11] Outside Shanghai, **Hunan Travel Guide** highlights a strong lineup of immersive culture events: **Tianxin Pavilion in Changsha** will stage intangible cultural heritage performances and China-chic shows, **Tongguan Kiln China-chic Park** will offer a moon-worship ceremony and molten iron fireworks, and **Qianzhou Ancient Town** will host a **Nuo mask dance parade**.[2] In Kunming, the **2026 Dianchi Food & Culture Festival** opened on **25 September** and is running more than **300 cultural and tourism events** over the eight-day holiday, combining Yunnan cuisine with performances, folk customs and heritage activities.[14]
