China Policy Update — 18 October 2026
policy • 18 October 2026
China’s hotel landscape is expanding with new openings across major cities, coastal resorts and emerging leisure destinations, giving Australian travellers more accommodation choices for upcoming holidays. IHG Hotels & Resorts is adding six Vignette Collection properties across Greater China during 2026, including hotels in Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai, Beidaihe, Qiandao Lake and Sanya. The collection emphasises locally inspired design and guest experiences: Chengdu’s Palm Springs Hotel, for example, draws on Shu embroidery and fragrance-making, while Shanghai Snow World Hotel is located within the L+SNOW Indoor Skiing Theme Resort.[4] Travellers planning multi-city itineraries can consider these openings for stays combining international hotel standards with regional culture. The broader hotel market is also growing steadily. According to a September 2026 industry report, 223 new hotels opened across China during the month, including 33 high-end, 159 mid-range and 31 economy properties. New international-brand additions included Chongqing Lijia Baiyunhu Hotel, part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, and Chengdu Pulemu Hotel, part of its Tapestry Collection.[1] Availability and opening dates can vary, so travellers should confirm the hotel’s operating status and transport connections before booking.Sources
